The Pre-School

Our aim is to enhance the development and education of pre-school children in a safe, secure and stimulating environment, and to work within a framework which ensures equality of opportunity for all children regardless of gender, race or ability, giving opportunity to experience a challenging and enjoyable programme of learning and development.  We are working alongside

We are a church pre-school and as such, we have close links with other things going on in the church. We aim to create a Christian ethos and give priority to Christian teaching where relevant within the curriculum. Although not all staff are churchgoers, all are sympathetic to the Christian ethos.  

At Preston Baptist Church Pre-school we will try to demonstrate Christian values and be active members of the local community. We aim to create a positive atmosphere that encourages children’s learning and promotes family life. For more information please ask to see our policies folder.  Whilst we are essentially a Christian Pre-school we operate a policy of Equal Opportunities, which welcomes all children from any religious and cultural background and we will do our best to accommodate any special requirements that this may involve.

Our pre-school is Ofsted inspected and Quality Assured and takes children from two years old until they start school at five.

The Pre-school is managed by Susan Foxall with the support of a Deputy Manager, a voluntary Management Committee made up of members of staff, a Treasurer, Administrator, Church Deacon, Minister and an elected Parent Representative.  This committee meets every term.

The Toddler Group

The Toddler Group is aimed at families with children under 3. There is no lower age limit. The Toddler group is run by the Pre-school and the church and aims to create a friendly atmosphere where all are welcome and there are opportunities for children to thrive.

The aim of the group is to support local families by providing a social time and a range of activities for parents, carers and their children.  There is a weekly craft activity, which not only includes cutting and

sticking, but baking, growing and painting amongst other things!  Each session is ended with a time of singing together. The Toddler Group runs from 9.45 to 11.45 on a Wednesday morning in the main hall of the church, and  each session costs £1.50 per family payable at the door.

Children attending Toddler Group must be accompanied by an adult at all times. That adult  (parent or carer)  is legally responsible for their child’s safety at all times. Parents and carers are expected to take reasonable precautions to be on the look out for potentially hazardous situations to prevent accidents and thereby help to create a safe space for the toddlers.

Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 9.00am – 4.00pm. Wednesday 9.00am-12 noon

Cost £3.20 per hour (subject to review each September) (Government funding available for  3-4 year-olds)

Early Birds 9am-9.30am Cost: £1 everyday

Lunch Club 12 noon-1.00pm Cost: £2.50 everyday except Wednesday

Toddler Group

Leader: Helen Monaghan

Every Wednesday (term time only) 9.45am-11.45

Cost: £1.50 per family per session

Volunteers and Parent Helpers are encouraged to be part of the team and are supervised at all times.

Torbay Early Years, following the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework, but here at Preston Baptist Church the emphasis will always be on learning through play.

On a day to day basis the pre-school is run by a by a Manager and Deputy Manager and each play room by a Supervisor with the help of an assistant and several Play-workers, all of whom have relevant qualifications and experience.  We aim to keep parents informed in a variety of ways through day to day contact, a weekly Newsletter and Keyworker Meetings.
